Short answer
Yes. Anthropic's Claude models run inside Microsoft Copilot, Researcher, and Copilot Studio when an admin enables Anthropic as a Microsoft subprocessor. They are not available to federal GCC, GCC High, or DoD tenants. ChatGPT and Claude's own apps can also connect to Microsoft 365 through admin-approved connectors, under their own terms.
Claude inside Microsoft Copilot
Microsoft offers Anthropic models alongside its own in Microsoft Copilot, Researcher, Copilot Studio, Power Platform, and Copilot experiences in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In Copilot, indicators show when a Claude model is in use. In Copilot Studio, makers choose the model when they build an agent.
Who controls it
An AI Administrator or Global Administrator manages the setting in the Microsoft 365 admin center under Copilot settings, in "AI providers operating as Microsoft subprocessors." Admins can turn Anthropic off, or limit it to specific users and groups. Copilot Studio and Power Platform have additional controls in the Power Platform admin center.
Availability by cloud
- Commercial: available. On by default in most regions; off by default in the EU, EFTA, and UK.
- Non-federal GCC, such as state and local agencies: available through an admin setting added in July 2026.
- Federal GCC, GCC High, and DoD: not available.
ChatGPT and Claude apps connected to Microsoft 365
The standalone ChatGPT and Claude apps can connect to SharePoint, OneDrive, and Outlook through connectors that an admin approves in Entra ID. That data then leaves Microsoft's boundary under the AI vendor's terms. Many organizations prefer to use Claude inside Copilot, where Microsoft 365 permissions, labels, and audit apply.
What to decide
- Which models your organization allows, and for whom
- Whether to approve third-party AI apps that request Microsoft 365 data
- What your acceptable-use policy says about each
Based on Microsoft's published documentation as of October 2026. Microsoft changes names, features, and billing often; confirm details in your own tenant.
