Short answer
If you have a Microsoft 365 work account, you have Copilot Chat. If your organization assigned you a Microsoft Copilot license, you also have Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams, plus agents such as Researcher. Copilot Studio is a separate tool for building agents and bills in Copilot Credits.
How to tell in ten seconds
- Open Word or Outlook. If you can ask Copilot about your own documents or mail from inside the app, you have a Microsoft Copilot license.
- If you see Copilot Chat but it only knows the web and files you upload, you have Copilot Chat without the license.
- If you can build agents with tools and actions, your admins gave you access to Copilot Studio.
The names changed
Microsoft renamed Microsoft 365 Copilot to Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat to Microsoft Copilot Chat, and Azure AI Foundry to Microsoft Foundry. Copilot Studio usage moved from messages to Copilot Credits. Nothing about security or compliance changed with the names.
